Folk & Merchant
About This Spot
Nestled quietly in the heart of Doubleview, Folk & Merchant unfolds like a well-kept secret — a place where the pace softens and the world outside slows just enough to savor the moment. Stepping through its doors, or better yet, wandering into the expansive leafy courtyard, you immediately sense the calm that lingers in the air. It’s a spacious yet intimate refuge filled with natural light and the gentle hum of easy conversation, where families and friends come to share unhurried mornings or relaxed afternoons. The presence of a small play area subtly weaves in a welcoming ease for those with little ones, making it feel like a genuine neighborhood haven.
The atmosphere here is deliberate without trying too hard — warm and grounded, offering a respite from the city’s usual rush. Folk & Merchant carries a distinctive rhythm that invites you to settle in, breathe deeply, and enjoy the simple comforts of good company and thoughtful food. Behind the counter, there’s a kind of quiet confidence as the baristas prepare a coffee that consistently hits the mark, whether it’s a smooth almond flat white or a classic cappuccino, each cup crafted with care rather than ceremony.
Beyond coffee, the menu feels like an extension of the café’s thoughtful spirit — carefully curated rather than overwhelming, focused on dishes that balance fresh, honest flavors with a touch of whimsy. Imagine starting the day with a vibrant bowl brimming with creamy labneh, tangy pickled onions, and ripe avocado, or sharing a crusty bagel generous with pesto and tender chicken. Each bite echoes the same unpretentious intention that permeates the space: nourishing, satisfying, and just a little bit special.
It’s in these human moments — nursing a warm drink, stealing quiet time in the courtyard, watching children play nearby — that Folk & Merchant truly shines. Here, the experience isn’t rushed or overproduced; it’s simply about finding a place where you can be present, linger longer, and feel quietly held by the community around you.

Folk & Merchant is one of my favourite spots in Scarborough. The courtyard is such a hidden gem — spacious, leafy, and super relaxing, with a small play area that makes it perfect if you’ve got kids in tow. It has a really calm, welcoming vibe that makes you want to linger a little longer. The coffee is consistently great, and the staff are always friendly and down-to-earth. I love that it’s also dog-friendly — you’ll often see happy pups lounging around while their owners enjoy a coffee or brunch. Even in the cooler months it’s lovely to sit outside with a warm drink. If you’re after a casual, community-focused café with plenty of space to unwind, Folk & Merchant is definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful cafe with a huge courtyard and a small kids play area. Very relaxing and calm atmosphere. We ordered coffee to drink while dining in but it was served in takeout cups - I would recommend bringing your own keep cup here.

Amazing viby atmosphere, especially the outdoor area. Food and drinks are reasonably priced and the menu isn't overcrowded as they've perfected the items. Pesto Chicken Bagel was so flavourful and the coffee was so good.

I just love Folk & Merchant. It is by far my favorite café in all of Perth. I discovered it accidentally and then came back about 10 times within 3 weeks of my vacation in Perth. The service is outstanding, the food is incredible and the place itself is just so relaxing, peaceful and beautiful! The coffee, both hot and iced, is just great. I highly recommend the smashed avocado with scrambled eggs. I haven’t ever had such a perfect avocado toast! The café’s Dukkha, which comes on top of it, is unbelievably delicious. The açaí bowl with homemade granola is also just amazing… Just everything at Folk & Merchant tastes so healthy and fresh! Whenever I will get back to Perth one day, this will be my first stop.

The most dog friendly cafe iv visited in a long time because dogs can be inside or outside in the stunning courtyard. Even in winter months it’s lovely to sit in the courtyard because there’s a lot of sun the entire time they are open. Bacon and egg bagel is great and I love AM breaky bowl with bacon. It’s not clear that if you choose to sit in the courtyard that you will get served in takeaway cartons but that is fine with me but if you are expecting plated service and silver cutlery then you need to sit on the tables directly infront of the entry or inside.
